Welcome To My Occasional Website

WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE!

It's very unevolved at this time, as I'm focusing on my blog:  http://carolnovack.blogspot.com.

I am a re-emerging writer of prose and poetry.  In my yute, I actually managed to get someone to publish a book of my poems, "Living Alone without a Dictionary." I also prevailed on a foreign government,
Australia (where I lived for several years), to grant me a creative writer's award. After leaving Australia in 1977, I wandered about Europe for the better part of a year.  Eventually, I returned to my native NYC, where I subsequently assumed the identity a People's lawyer, representing all sorts of alleged miscreants and championing the constitutional right of street artists to sell their works in public without a vendor's license. Much to my customary angst, I hardly wrote anything but legal motions and briefs.

In 2002, I pursued a Masters degree in social work (community organizing) and managed to trap it. Oddly enough, the excruciating task of writing social science papers dissolved my writer's block.  My current writings can be found both online and off.  If you google my name, you'll find out all sorts of weird things I didn't even know about myself.  Of course, not all of them are true.

http://www.laurahird.com/showcase/carolnovack.html includes a list of some of my favorite writers, artists and composers, as well as my story "Crazy Broad."

I hosted a monthly short short fiction and prose poetry series at Cornelia Street Cafe, NYC, for several months (in 2005), and I've been a featured at various venues in the vicinity.  Check the Events page at http://www.madhattersreview.com for dates and details.

The first issue of a multimedia e-zine I've been creating with the help of a few wonderful writers at the http://www.zoetrope.com online workshop was launched on March 14th.  Mad Hatters' Review (http://www.madhattersreview.com).  It's gorgeous and replete with brilliant writing, fetching artwork, and wonderful music. The second issue hit the Internets on June 15th and there's a great review at www.newpages.com (see homepage).  We were also named "Lit Mag of the Season" (www.laurahird.com).  Recently, we received another glowing review, and we've been invited to join the webdelsol community, which is a great honor.

Our third issue was published on September 15th; the next will be out in January.

I was really happy to be published in online Diagram, one of my favorites.  My prose poem "Destination" was selected as a "best" of WDS published writings, Series 20: http://www.webdelsol.com/eSCENE/series20.html

The print magazine, Wild Strawberries,  published my prosepoem/hybrid, "Field Exercise."  "Demonica" was published in the print publication of Cellar Door and will be re-published online in Big Bridge.

"I AM NOT WHO I THINK I AM OR IS IT WHOM" will be published in print (and maybe online as well) in the third chapter of Anemone Sidecar: http://www.ravennapress.com/snowmonkey/pages/anemone_sidecar.php and "Fish Triptych" will reside at the dock of the Ravenna Hotel (another offspring of the Monkey). "Moving Soldiers" will be published in Jan. '06 in Muse Apprentice Guild

Let's all do whatever we can to stem the tides of dangerous totalitarianism in the USA.  Two of my writings address this issue, in the abstract:  "Moving Soldiers," and "I AM NOT NOR HAVE I EVER BEEN" (published in Mad Hatters' Review and Unlikely Stories).

I'm a bit behind in my postings here.  Expect some wild experimentals soon!

Pax vobiscum,

Carol
